Snorkeler dies in apparent drowning off Oahu’s North Shore

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The 29-year-old man pulled from the waters off Oahu’s North Shore earlier this week has died.
He was snorkeling with a group off Three Tables Beach on Monday afternoon when large surf separated them.
HFD, Ocean Safety and EMS responded to the scene after receiving a call of three snorkelers in distress around 3:30 p.m.
Two of them, a man and woman, were found shortly after rescue crews arrived on scene. However, lifeguards searched in the water and from the air to find the third snorkeler, a 29-year-old man. He was found about an hour later.
First responders gave him CPR and advanced life support before rushing him to to the hospital in critical condition where he later died. HNN was told he is a soldier attached to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State.
The other two snorkelers suffered lacerations but did not require hospitalization.
The surf was said to be 6 to 10 feet, and building, at the time of the rescue.
